Joyous praise unto God

Hevenu Shalom Aleichem

El Barquito

English Interpretation

Once upon a time

There was a very little boat

Which did not know how to navigate.

And it could not find its way.

The usual storms and hurricanes occurred,

And still it could not sail.

And if the story doesn’t seem too boring,

We will tell it to you once more.

Onye Mere Nwa Nebe Akwa (Who made the Baby Cry?)

Trad. Nigerian Igbo children’s song

English interpretation:

Who made my baby cry?

Chinwe made my baby cry

Bring leaf and pepper

Bring my spoon, let me collect my soup

So the birds will not lick it

Oh, sing it again

Sleep, baby, sleep.

Mother is coming, sleep,

She'll give you milk, sleep.
