Since 2007, the Pilsen/Little Village Neighborhood Choir has served youth from Pilsen, Little Village and surrounding neighborhoods.
Our Neighborhood Choir Program is a window onto the world and an incubator for global leadership. With our world-class instruction and empathetic approach to music education, these community-based programs bring to life an emphasis on emotional, intellectual, and social development anchored in musical excellence and creative expression.
In the Pilsen/Little Village Neighborhood Choir Program, music education means more than theory, notation, and sight-singing. Through exposure to music that authentically incorporates diverse languages and styles, singers engage in dialogue about the historical and social context of an array of cultures. The impact of this exposure is compounded by the opportunity for students to connect with young people across the city—and globe—breaking down barriers of race, religion, and socioeconomics, forging life-long friendships along the way.
The Pilsen/Little Village Neighborhood Choir Program has been invited to sing for community functions and throughout Chicago. Select singers have recently performed in Hansel and Gretel, Carmen, Turandot and La bohème at Lyric Opera of Chicago and Bernstein’s MASS with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Ravinia Festival. Members of the Pilsen/Little Village Neighborhood Choir have toured throughout the United States, most recently to Michigan, Maryland and Washington D.C., New Orleans, and Indiana.
Beginning in the 2024-25 program year, the Pilsen/Little Village Neighborhood Choir Program will be partnering with the Union League Boys and Girls Club next year at their Club One location (2157 W. 19th Street). By moving our rehearsals to Club One, we hope to be able to serve more families in the Pilsen and Little Village communities. Additionally, singers will benefit from the additional services provided by the Union League Boys and Girls Club including a snack/meal after school, additional programming, homework help, and they even offer transportation from a few local schools! Visit their website for more information about programming offered at their club. There is no additional cost to becoming a member of the Union League Boys and Girls Club - just a simple enrollment form to add to the registration for Uniting Voices.
